Welcome to the Madness

Four runs. One night. No sleep. Finish the dark — if you can.”

Concept of Operations

NIGHT DESCENT 32 is a progressive, multi-stage overnight challenge totalling 32 miles.

Runners must complete four increasingly longer runs through the night, with time cutoffs for the first three. Only those who make each cutoff can advance to the next stage.

Think of it as a trail survival test, where only the determined, caffeinated, and slightly deranged will see dawn.

You’re about to attempt 32 miles of staged nocturnal insanity. The cautious will drop. The caffeinated and deranged may stumble on. And only the truly Mad will earn the sunrise.

Event Schedule: The Descent into Night

Check-in & Briefing: 9:00pm — gather your gear, your courage, and your questionable life choices.

Start: 10:00pm sharp — no mercy for late arrivals.

Phase 1: The Gathering

- Distance: 5 miles

- Start: 10:00pm → Cutoff 11:30pm (1 hr 30 min)

Everyone starts together. If you can’t make this, the night will eat you alive.

Phase 2: Deeper into the Darkness

- Distance: 7 miles

- Start: 11:30pm → Cutoff 1:20am (1 hr 50 min)

The trail grows darker. The cutoffs grow meaner.

Phase 3: The Madness Mile

- Distance: 10 miles

- Start: 1:20am → Cutoff 3:50am (2 hr 30 min)

Here’s where sanity unravels. Fail, and you vanish into the night.

Phase 4: Dawn Reckoning

- Distance: 10 miles

- Start: 3:50am → Cutoff 7:50am (3 hr generous)

Survivors stagger toward the sunrise. At this point, it’s less about running… more about refusing to quit.

Rules of Madness

- Respect the cutoffs. No exceptions. Time waits for no Mad Running Junkie.

- Mandatory gear: headlamp, reflective gear, hydration system. (Glow sticks optional, straightjackets discouraged.)

- Be visible. Be safe. The dark wants to eat you. Don’t make it easy.

- Support your fellow Mad Runners. If you see someone melting down, offer them a smile… or caffeine.

  • Medical emergencies: alert staff immediately. We’re mad, not reckless.

4. Aid Stations (Your Lifelines)

- Water, electrolytes, and fuel at each stage turnaround.

- Coffee: yes, we know. (It will be there.)

- Snacks: salty, sweet, and suspiciously fluorescent.

  • No gourmet feasts. This isn’t brunch.

5. Logistics for the Doomed

Location: Start/finish at the usual

Mad Running Junkies HQ

See Location map

Parking: Available, but no guarantees your car will forgive you at dawn.

Gear Drop: Allowed at base camp between stages.

Restrooms: Yes, because even madness has rules.

6. The Code of the Mad Junkie

- Suffer together. Celebrate together.

- No whining (muttering to yourself is encouraged).

- Share the trail. Share the madness.

  • Leave nothing but footprints, take nothing but weird stories.

7. Closing Words

The Mad Running Junkies return to the night.

32 miles of progressive madness — four stages, four different routes, each longer, each darker, each closer to dawn.

Finish them all, and you’ll earn the sunrise (and maybe a little of your sanity back).
